5 things friday 1.25.13

Instead of going out to dinner, buy good food. Cooking at home shows such affection. In a bad economy, it's more important to make yourself feel good.

5 Things FridaySince it’s Friday and I’m in the mood for fun, I decide to join the 5 Things Friday fun. Here are 5 random things in random order.

  1. Failed Chicken Stock
Chicken Stock left to cook for 24 hours needs to be checked. Just saying.
  2. My bread machine pan fell apart this week. The little knob thing that holds the paddle in place fell out. Of course, we can’t weld it back in place because it needs to be able to turn. I’m hoping I can get a new container on Amazon, the source of all things, and that may just be a forlorn hope.

  3. Sometimes cooking experiments do work. I made a scrumptious butternut squash and parsnip soup yesterday to use up old veggies in the fridge. It was so good I had it for lunch and dinner. Recipe to come, I promise.
  4. One of my favorite posts recently – How to Send Letters in the Mail by Crafty Garden Mama. Let’s face it – handwritten letters and recipes are going away though they shouldn’t. There’s a history in those letters and recipes. We have the recipe book complete with handwritten notations that belonged to my husband’s grandfather. I love sharing the history with my kids.
  5. I have to put together a Coffee and Tea basket for a school fundraiser. Even though I love my coffee and am very particular about the coffee, would you believe I have no idea what else to stick in the basket? Suggestions are most welcome!

What are your 5 Things?

I’m a tea drinker and I suggest a box of herbal, a box of black, a box of white, and a box of green tea. And some lightly sweet biscuits for eating alongside a cup of tea or coffee. Honey sticks for sweetener? Tea ball for loose tea? Nice travel mugs? Hot chocolate for the kids?

I can tell you from personal experience that caramelized onions in the crock pot cooked 18 hours also need to be checked. Luckily they could be salvaged.

If Amazon fails you, try thrift stores for the bread machine pan.
