Instead of going out to dinner, buy good food. Cooking at home shows such affection. In a bad economy, it's more important to make yourself feel good.

Hot Cocoa Mix

With a winter storm expected for north of the Philly area where I live, I pulled out my hot cocoa supplies and mixed up a batch. It’s only a matter of time before we get hit with a huge winter storm. It always happens around my birthday which is next Saturday. Always.

Hot Cocoa Mix

Hot Cocoa Mix

Ingredients

3 1/2 cups Organic Sugar
2 1/4 cups Baking Cocoa
1 teaspoon Salt
1/4 cup Cinnamon

Method

Mix together the organic sugar, baking cocoa, salt, and cinnamon in a large bowl. Store in a jar with an air-tight lid.

To make individual servings, warm up 1 cup of whole milk. Add 2 tablespoons of the cocoa mix and stir until dissolved. For a larger batch, warm the milk in a sauce pan. Make sure it doesn’t boil over while warming. Stir in 2 tablespoons of mix for each cup of milk.

This sounds so simple and awesome! I’ve been using an Alton Brown recipe for a few years now, I have had trouble getting it just right. The only thing I can say is good is the use of powdered sugar. The bad part is… the powdered sugar. I never have that around! ( I tried making it myself once and boy was that a flop!) I will absolutely give this a go next time.

Thank you! I picked up more marshmallows today to treat the kids to hot cocoa during the upcoming 4 day weekend.
